Twice a year the Peach Truck rolls into Central Indiana packed full of bushels of Georgia peaches. I had seen this crazy event advertised in years past but this was the first year when we marked off the day on our calendar to join in on the Peach Truck craze. Last Saturday, Ava woke up early to join me on the inaugural trip. When we pulled into Salsberry Brothers Landscaping, the line for peaches was already 50 people deep and it was thirty minutes before opening! While standing in line, Ava and I debated between 1/2 a bushel or two and started to create the list of recipes we could make. Hers included peach smoothies and peach pie. Peach Bellini topped mine.
The staff at the Peach Truck were efficient and in less than half an hour we were back to the van with 50 pounds of peaches and a pound of pecans in tow. After allowing the peaches to ripen on our counter for several days, we are ready to start baking, cooking and drinking. While higher in fructose than many other fruits, peaches are a great source of Vitamins A and C and perfect this time of year.
