For the second year in a row, I’m linking up with Kristin at Jonesin’ for Run to take a look into my miles and celebrate Global Running Day!
Why do you run?
I run because it makes me a better mom, wife, daughter, friend. I run because it’s a time and space to clear my head and dream and pray. Lately, I have been running with a group of friends through Moms Run This Town. I have always been a solo runner but this running with friends thing is really growing on me!
How do you plan to celebrate Global Running Day?
Well running of course! My running buddy, Rachel, and I are going to get in a few miles this morning or tonight as part of a local running store’s celebration.
How many miles have you run this year? Do you have a mileage goal for the year?
I’m not sure of my mileage count for the year. But I do know it’s not many! The first few months of this year, I committed to a weight training program, The Master’s Hammer and Chisel, and running was sporadic at best. Then I got sick and had surgery. Only now, half way through the year, am I getting into my running groove.
I have also discovered the joy of running to just run. While running with friends, I am less concerned with pace or mileage or split times. I’m focused on laughter and good conversation. So my Nike + app has barely been opened this year and I’m comfortable with that. No mileage goals for this year!
What big events do you have on the race calendar for the rest of the year?
Besides the remaining 5k runs to complete the Run(317) series and one half marathon… I’ve got no races planned! I am DETERMINED to become a triathlete this year. So getting a sprint trip on the calendar is priority #1!
Before I leave for a run I must have:
Sunglasses. The rest of my gear is totally optional but squinting while running just gives this mama a headache!
Who is your favorite running partner?
This guy. Jack could run a 5 minute mile I’m sure. But he trots alongside next to me and we hit the pavement together!
What races have you run so far this year?
Only one! You can read my race recap of the first Run(317) race at the Circle tomorrow!
If you have to give someone one piece of advice about running, what would it be?
This. Simply this.
